Scenic Driving
if you enjoy mountain driving, there are two routes
we find most enjoyable. Both routes are described
traveling eastbound:
Side trip — If
you are traveling to the coast and driving north
on Hwy 101, state highway 53 offers a series of
switchbacks to challenge any driver. This drive
will end at Hwy 26. Traveling eastward on 26,
take 47 to return to the Inn.
Destination trip —
If you are driving back to Portland, 219 north
out of Newberg at Scholls Street offers an alternative
to the busy suburbs of southwest Portland. From
219, take 210 to 217. State Highway 217 meets
US Highway 26 into Portland. This drive takes
you through the high valley with views of both
Mt. Hood and Mt. Jefferson as you travel eastward
and takes you past apple and filbert orchards.
It is again a series of switchbacks.
