In our category of “Such-and-Such Slept Here” we add the author of one famous book, and most likely to be of a second famous book. Rex Pickett wrote Sideways about the wine and travel adventures (and mis-adventures) of Miles and Jack which lit up the California (and Pinot Noir) wine world and became a worldwide movie sensation, nominated for six Oscars in 2004.
Now, in researching his new book, Rex was our guest a few years back, and that research has helped launch Vertical, his new book about Miles and Jack and their adventures in our Willamette Valley. Just released in early 2011 by Loose Gravel Press, this novel describes the Oregon wine country as it is: the most beautiful in all of North America. In the book – and we believe, soon to be movie – Miles and Jack stay at The Brookside Inn, along with Miles’ mother, and her Filipino caretaker when Miles is invited to host the International Pinot Noir Celebration (IPNC) in McMinnville.
Life imitates art as the real Miles (Rex) has been invited to the 25th IPNC celebration this late July for a book signing. Can Hollywood be far behind?
