Dear Bruce,

 spring bud

After the almost three weeks of below freezing temperatures followed by six inches of snow, believe it or not, we are beginning to see sprouts of what will soon become spring.  The vineyard workers are starting to prune the vines, the irises are sprouting, and buds are swelling.  We are approaching a stunningly beautiful time of year in the Valley, the resurrection of life, the renewal of energy, the lengthening of days and a perfect time to get out of the winter doldrums and visit us at the Inn.

WineVindication of a Vintage

A hot topic of debate recently in the Willamette Valley is how the 2007 vintage is developing. In our August 2009 newsletter, we lent our palate and opinion with a small discussion (albeit one-sided, as we didn't include anyone's views except our own) about the 2007 Pinot noirs.  Since then, most 2007s have continued to evolve into graceful, elegant, more earth driven beauties that are truer to the flavor profiles of Old World Pinot noir, not the fleshy fruit bombs we have come to accept from this fickle grape.  In the January 2010 edition, the Oregon Wine Press  reprinted the top stories of 2009; one of which was Vindication of a VintageThis extremely well-written article approached the issue of the 2007 vintage head on, and we agree with the authors' opinions 100%.  We invite you to take a moment to read the commentaries, pop open a bottle of 2007 Oregon Pinot noir, and decide for yourself.  If you need guidance in finding high quality 2007s, join The Brookside's Wine Club, or reserve a suite and we will arrange a day or two of touring in wine country for you.

Hope to see you soon.

Cheers!
